Vivonet Product Development: Hotel Food and Beverage

Based on our attendance at HITEC 2018 in Houston this year alone, it is very apparent to our team and to Vivonet as a whole, that digital transformation trends continue to drive rapid and significant change in the industry. For us, this means galvanizing our approach to how we develop products with the specific and measurable needs of hotel brands firmly in mind.

Since the event in Houston, our product development team has done a lot of planning and down-in-the-trenches development around what hotel food and beverage operations really need to be successful. Our efforts have centered around how our solutions integrate with a wide range of hotel technology environments as they stand now. But we’ve also done a lot of thinking about what the future will look like, too.

Here are some of the efforts we’ve put into the product development for our hotel industry customers to serve them now and also in preparation for the future.

Connecting hotel food and beverage operations

Within the hotel space, our solutions specialize in serving food and beverage operations; hotel restaurants, bars, the hotel pantry, and other revenue centers. But, we are very aware that achieving unity in an organization's whole digital environment is necessary to enable more meaningful reporting across all revenue centers. Our Oracle and Opera PMS integration status has opened all kinds of possibilities to help our hotel industry customers connect the dots in their data with this requirement in mind.

We are committed to our continuing support of seamless integrations between point-of-sale, kiosks, back office tools, our enterprise management platform and hotel PMS. Our mission is to make sure that our hotel customers get that unified single source of truth needed to identify vital data trends so they can scale overall business strategy accordingly. That’s the key motivation that drives our commitment on the development side.

Seamless hotel PMS/POS integrations in the present and future

Vivonet greatly values our partnerships with leading PMS providers which of course includes Infor, but also Oracle, Springer Miller, and OnQ. Even as those integrations with PMS solutions deepen, we are aware that there is a field of PMS solutions out there that go beyond our existing partnerships. We’ve developed our products with leading solutions in mind. But we also acknowledge that ongoing scalability and the potential for expansion must be served, too. It’s a big part of our mandate.

We look to the future of standardizing point-of-sale systems and supporting solutions for integration with any hotel PMS even if that system is brand new or otherwise isn’t an established industry leader. The key principle there will be to preserve the functions and features of any individual PMS, while also achieving a seamless integration to consistently serve our customers and their guests no matter which PMS is in use. Our continuous and healthy dialogue with our customers will always guide the direction toward that future.

Product development: holistic and customer-focused

Individual product development is important. But our product team is always cognizant of getting too focused on individual products and their features at the expense of our broader mission; helping our hotel food and beverage customers identify and meet specific challenges that will give them a sustainable competitive advantage. What we’ve found to be useful in keeping this in mind is thinking about how each individual product contributes to a whole platform that our customers can trust.

This central mission around our development activities is the specific business needs and goals that come out of meaningful and productive discussions with our customers. Members of the team personally visit sites to dialogue about what’s needed to serve guests better. These discussions help inform the creation of better tools for staff to use, all of which are integrated in a seamless way to PMS to create that sense of operational unity mentioned earlier. This helps to to give hotel business leaders a more precise basis for strategy on a larger scale across multiple locations.

Next steps

For us on the Vivonet Product team, serving the hotel industry that is changing so fast is an exciting prospect. Our next steps in development will be determined by continuing to dedicate ourselves to collaboration with our internal teams, our technology partners, and our customers to maintain clarity on what the competitive landscape in the hotel industry looks like right now and what it’s set to look like in the near future.
