Vivonet at HITEC Toronto 2017: 5 Technologies We'll Showcase for Attendees

I’ve said this before, but it’s worth repeating; we at Vivonet are very excited to be going to HITEC Toronto 2017. Our whole team is primed to learn a lot from other industry leaders who will also attend, and we’re looking forward to offering attendees a chance to learn a lot from us, too.

Over the past year in particular, our Product team has been very busy innovating around how cloud technology can vastly improve hotel operations. In more detail, though, here’s what we at Vivonet will showcase at our booth this year at HITEC Toronto.

1. Dual-mode kiosk for the hotel pantry

What is it?

The dual mode kiosk is an automated way for guests to place orders on their own without a staff member's help. It can also convert to a standard POS terminal during busy times for staff to use, which is why it’s called “dual mode”. That's a game-changer for the hotel space. It's a great way to test the worth of a kiosk in a location, while also having the benefit of a functional POS terminal to serve that location at the same time.

Why it’s important to guest experience

The largest current guest demographic in the hotel space is millennials. This growing group of travelers place enormous value in self-guided experiences. In part, that means being able to take care of the little things by themselves, like buying a toothbrush from the hotel pantry at 2AM if they need one. The dual kiosk allows this, without the need for a staff member to attend. The kiosk also reduces losses on items removed from the pantry when staff are not present to process guest purchases.

Should things get busy during the day, a staff member can help guests with their purchases by using the POS function. This opens the possibilities for service, and for enhancing the guest experience, too.

While we’re at HITEC this year, we will have a live kiosk set up. We’ll also have our own makeshift pantry from which you can buy your choice in snack while testing the technology.

2. Self-serve kiosk

What is it?

The kiosk can serve as an ordering point for guests in numerous places in a hospitality location beyond the pantry. By now, the self-serve kiosk is becoming more and more of a fixture in places like quick-service restaurants, connected to enterprise management tools and, of course, the POS.

Why it's important to the guest experience

In much the same way that we talked about this technology as a dual mode option, the self-serve kiosk engages the guest to explore products at their leisure. The advantages here are being able to order something quickly, and to skip the line. It also allows them to browse products without the pressure of having to be ready with an order while taking their turn in line. The kiosk will also suggest other purchases to the guest that they might not have thought about. This anticipation of their needs adds value for them, just as it would if they were dealing directly with staff.

While we're at the show, we'll have a second kiosk set up in addition to the one attached to our "pantry". Like that one, attendees will be invited to try it out.

3. Tablet POS

What is it?

The tablet POS allows servers to carry all the functionality of a traditional POS with them wherever service to guests is needed. To add additional flexibility to operators, the tablet POS can be docked in the terminal for standard use. It can be removed again at will when the need arises for tableside transactions, or anywhere a guest requires service.

Why it’s important to guest experience

Portable technology like this brings service to the guest, and does not tie them to any specific location. That means that they can order a cold drink, pay for it, and sip it poolside at their leisure all without having to move from their deck chair. If they'd rather pay from the terminal, that's an option, too.

All the while, the technology itself does the heavy lifting. The server uses the tablet to collect the order information. The tablet encrypts the data, and the payment is then sent to a gateway just like a traditional POS. No change there. But the guest experience is radically enhanced. It puts the comfort of the guest first, while the technology takes care of the process.

We’ll have some tablet POS units with us at out booth for attendees to inspect, and we’ll show them the range of functionality that can empower hotel staff to change the way they serve guests for the better.

4. Vivonet Enterprise Manager

What is it?

Vivonet Enterprise Manager is an advanced operations management tool that helps manage pricing, details on menu items, and other critical data that impacts the guest experience. It is a central hub for operations to maintain visibility and control over all products and services and the vital data attached to them.

Why it’s important to guest experience

Efficient enterprise management has a significant impact on how guests perceive a brand offering, and how they experience their stay. Guests can sense when operations are smoothly run, and equally when they are in disarray. A cloud-based enterprise management tool can make sure that the small details that can enhance a guest experience, or completely derail it when things go wrong, are handled seamlessly.

A while ago, Vivonet Product Manager Andy Yu wrote about his workwith his team on Vivonet Enterprise Manager, particularly the 3.0 version which is currently in beta. We’ll be giving HITEC attendees a sneak peek of its functionality and new interface design. We’re excited to show other industry leaders what we’ve accomplished, and how it can help them make their operations more efficient and easier to manage.

5. Vivonet Mobile Insights

What is it?

Vivonet Mobile Insights is an application designed for operations professionals to keep tabs on live data using their phones. It produces real time reporting that allows for management to know what's happening in terms of sales numbers, inventory levels, and other important areas of the business at any given moment no matter where they happen to be.

Why it's important to guest experience

As a long term strategy for serving guests better, easy access to sales data and operational reporting is vital. Simply put, having this kind of information wherever one needs it is the fastest way to nip potential problems in the bud before they become too serious. It's also the best way to identify growth areas and areas that require improvement on a more granular level.

From there, it becomes easier to plan a strategy, easier to lead staff, and easier to scale operations over the long-term to benefit the guest. All of that is an investment in making the guest feel more at home simply by improving operational reaction times.

We'll have Mobile Insights available for attendees to try out, including live data that we've prepared to give them a sense of the kind of information that can make a difference to serving their guests better.
